Ely Cathedral

This is a cathedral about 20min from us. It is very large. We only have pictures of the outside because we forgot our camera when we first came to visit it. So we will have to go back and get inside pictures. It is a beautiful cathedral. With lots of unique designs that were all carved by hand. The cathedral was built around 1109 with lots of restorations done to it since then. Whenever we go back and take more pictures I will post some interior ones.

Orford Castle

Orford Castle is located west of us right on the English Channel. It made for beautiful pictures with the water in the picture. This castle was a small circle. It had 3 levels and a basement. On each level was a main circle opening for gatherings with small cubbie holes for rooms that the guest would stay in. They were the size of most American master bathrooms. Not big at all, with a very tiny window for light. Some even had their own private loo (toilet). :) It was really odd looking. Not what I would imagine a castle looking like. It had a spiral staircase that went from the bottom all the way to the rooftop. The rooftop was were the guards kept watch. They had a beautiful view of the water but really no safety from the cold winters and the wind. They just had a small room to sleep in when not on duty. I think I would have hated that job. The protective exterior wall has all been destroyed and all that remains are a few stones here and there to prove that there once was a wall. Over all it was a unique castle that is hard to describe.

Framlingham Castle

This castle was interesting to tour. It was round and on the inside as you can see there is a lot of open space. There used to be a ton of buildings on the inside. From the pictures we saw at the castle it looked really packed inside, it was like its own little community. The old bridge was gone and all that was left were the pillars that held it up. All around the top of the castle wall was a walkway that was used by the guards to watch for the enemies. There were a total of 9 towers, all with a different style of chimney that we found rather interesting. Hope you enjoy the pictures. I have more of this castle if anyone wants to see more of it. It is located west of us close to the English Channel.

We have found that the people in England really cherish their gardens. They are just beautiful everywhere you look. Ours was already established and well taken care of. It will take a lot of work but it will be worth it .
